Samgwang-ri, a far-flung place in Unjon County of the DPRK’s North Phyongan Province, has turned into a model of modern countryside and livestock farming.

Distinctive modern houses stand in rows in picturesque villages adding to the sentiments peculiar to the countryside, in good harmony with branch farms, processing grounds, rearing blocks, cultural and welfare facilities, solar power plant, office building, hall of culture, kindergarten, schools, hospital, pharmacy and other public buildings which are impeccable in terms of architectural beauty.

The Samgwang Livestock Farm is a conglomerate with animal husbandry, crop farming and foodstuff processing integrated.

The farm has achieved a definite integration of science and technology with production, realized a food production cycle based on animal husbandry and crop farming and established an intelligent integrated production system capable of real-time monitoring, analyzing and controlling the state of production and management.

It has also introduced a method of raising goats and milch cows indoors to produce milk regardless of the seasonal change while economizing on labour and area. The keepers conduct tending of animals in a scientific, technological and industrial way while operating the control system in modern animal sheds. In addition, milking, conveying and processing lines are fully automated; feed processing and production and most of the other lines are done as they are at an industrial factory.

An intelligent milking system has been adopted to make the cows and nanny goats always maintain their milk productivity at maximum. The dairy product workshop turns out more than ten kinds of products including butter and cheese.

The transformation of Samgwang-ri is associated with the painstaking efforts of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who conceived a plan to build a livestock farm equipped with facilities for producing dairy products in this area with hundreds of hectares of arable land and abundant forest and water resources and worked heart and soul to this end.

In July 2023 he learned in detail about the construction project and gave instructions on building the farm into a model of livestock farming, constructing rural houses and public buildings well and laying solid material and technological foundations for the farm.

He looked over hundreds of layouts and designs of buildings concerning the farm project.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the farm last February, he said: Just this Samgwang-ri clearly indicates the prospect of the socialist rural development we are going to attain. What we have to do from now on is to expand and develop the experience and successes we have gained in the course of building the Samgwang Livestock Farm, and thus put rural development onto a new qualitative transformation stage.

It is his ennobling intention to turn all the rural communities of the country into rich and cultured places, good to work and live in, like Samgwang-ri.
