Recorded in the history of the construction of the capital city is a story about the building of Ragwon Street on the banks of the Pothong River.
One day in March 1975, the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il called relevant officials to convene an urgent consultative meeting with the agenda item concerning the construction of Ragwon Street in Pyongyang.
There was a reason why he decided to build the street.
A few days ago, President Kim Il Sung said to officials that it would be very good if a new magnificent street straightly connected to Pipha Street, one of the main trunk roads in the city, was built before the 30th founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea so as to solve the housing problem of the working people.
But none of the officials could give reply to him.
It was because it was not easy to build a street with several thousand flats in less than a year.
Upon hearing it, Comrade Kim Jong Il made up his mind to take on the construction project. He repeatedly got together with relevant officials and designers for two days to discuss about it.
Hence, the urgent consultative meeting was held.
In the meeting, he took all necessary measures for finishing the large project in a short time, saying that it is essential to ensure a good supply of materials in order to carry out the project successfully.
And he resolutely told the officials: However unfavourable and difficult the conditions are, we should build 3 000 flats in any way.
Under his wise leadership, Ragwon Street was wonderfully built and inaugurated in October 1975.
