The Jehyon Farm under the South Phyongan Provincial Rural Economy Committee is actively introducing an advanced method of greenhouse seedling cultivation.
Last year the farm reaped a rich harvest by introducing the method.
In the past, each workteam needed four hands to raise rice seedlings for one hectare of paddy field. But as they began to grow them at a greenhouse, a small number of farmers were enough to turn out healthy seedlings for 40 hectares of field.
And with the introduction of the streamlined sowing process in the greenhouse they sowed seeds for two hectares in an hour. Previously a whole workteam sowed seeds for three hectares a day.
Now the farm works hard to build a large-capacity greenhouse drawing on last year’s farming experience.
According to Yun Jong Chol, a workteam leader, when the greenhouse equipped with cylindrical cultivation devices is to be built, it will help the farm to save not only labour needed for the care of rice-seedling beds but also a lot of farming materials.
In addition, it can grow bok choy, lettuce, pumpkin, tomato and other vegetables on a large scale after rice seedlings.
Anyone at the farm says that the introduction of advanced farming methods is the way to the prosperity for the farm.
