The Mangyongdae District Rural Economy Committee of Pyongyang Municipality gives effective scientific guidance to the farming operations of farms in the region.
The committee organized frequent consultations, technical lectures and workshops with a view to helping all the farms in the district to apply nutrient cold-seedlings to all their paddy fields and provide technical guidance to every farming process.
It built modern rice seedling cultivation greenhouses and introduced an integrated automatic temperature measuring device and integrated production control system so as to put rice seedling cultivation on a scientific, industrialized and intensive basis.
Under its guidance the farms applied various kinds of nutrient materials including phytosin, a bioactive material, to meet the growth of crops, thus increasing their output.
Particularly it helped them to adopt an advanced method to sow seeds in the right season while saving manpower. As a result, the district became one of the leading units across the country in wheat farming.
The farms also introduced fish farming in rice fields, with the result that they increased their crop yields and at the same time raised a large amount of catfish in several hectares of fields and laid the material and technical foundations to raise fish on a large scale.
Besides, the committee sent the farms farm machines such as tractor, rice seedling sowing machine, UAV for spraying agricultural chemicals and combine harvester.
The committee led the farms to dig the beds of streams and reinforce their banks with stones to minimize the possible damage to crops by floods and to build or renovate seed storehouse, poultry breeding stations and plant epidemic prevention centres conducive to their agricultural production.
As such, the district introduced advanced farming methods and techniques, informatized agricultural operations and increased the proportion of mechanized farming as well as overfulfilled its grain production plan. It was chosen as one of the top ten agricultural counties last year.
