The students of the junior course at Moranbong Middle School No. 1 excelled at the national robot contest of schools in the general education sector-2025 held in November last year.
Ri Wi Ryok, Kwon Yong Rim and Yu Jun Hyok from the school worked together to design and assemble a robot in time and operate it efficiently by using the given parts as required by the problem.
It has been no more than six months since they joined the robot group of the school.
“To make a robot a student should be good at mathematics, and be scrupulous, patient and persistent in all aspects,” said the group instructor Kang Hyon Jong. “And another point is the ability to develop things into practice.”
The school gives robot education in keeping with the trend of modern education and pedagogical requirements. Every year it chooses members of the group from the junior-course students, and three joined the group last year.
After learning in detail about the scholarly performance, characters, hobbies and skills of dozens of candidates, Kang selected Ri Wi Ryok with a good logical thinking ability, Yu Jun Hyok who likes to disassemble and assemble anything like a clock or a computer, and Kwon Yong Rim who is good at playing the violin.
She paid the greatest attention to making them complement one another.
They began to systematically learn super speed reading, basic subjects, programming and robotics.
Their first brainchild was a geometrical robot which was applied to lessons.
With self-confidence they went on to make a cleaning robot and a card-activated gate lock.
They gave full play to their abilities at the contest, cooperating with each other in programming, assembling and controlling the robot.
Their robot stood out in terms of operation, formative art and time of assembly, overpowering all the opponents.
At the end of the contest, they made a presentation of the challenges they faced in the course of assembling the robot.
“Through the group activities, I could acquire a wide range of knowledge and develop creative and practical abilities to apply in reality as a whole,” said Ri Wi Ryok.
