The Workers’ Party of Korea intends to rebuild the country’s public health on an advanced basis and radically develop it so that the people can enjoy the best medical care and lead a life in good health free from diseases.

The Ninth Congress of the WPK held last February set forth an important task to rapidly introduce the successes gained in the healthcare revolution started in 2025 to the whole public health sector to make the people practically enjoy the benefits of the socialist public health and put the foundation of the country’s public health on a higher level.

Last year was a year of transformation when a new revolution was launched to regenerate and upgrade the public health sector under the leadership of the Party.

The WPK, which regarded the building of public health capability as an issue of paramount importance for protecting the lives and safety of the people and as a most important state affair, put forward the idea that the provision of medical facilities, equipment, personnel and medicines constitutes the four essential elements for assessing the public health capability and wisely led the work to this end, thus making 2025 recorded as the first year of the public health revolution.

As they witnessed the inauguration of Kangdong County Hospital, Kusong City Hospital and Ryonggang County Hospital in the wake of the opening of Pyongyang General Hospital last year and enjoyed advanced medical care at those facilities, the Korean people realized what the plan and goal for modernizing public health pushed forward with under the leadership of the Party are like and convinced themselves of the future of socialist public health.

At its Ninth Congress, the Party put forward a more revolutionary and ambitious target for the public health sector.

It is to shore up the public health sector all at once by simultaneously promoting the construction of central hospitals and regional hospitals, individual healthcare facilities and medical service infrastructures across the country, and combining medical treatment and service, personnel training and scientific research.

Accordingly, projects for building new hospitals with a perfect level of modernity and civilization are to be simultaneously carried out in the capital and local areas during the period of the new long-term plan.

Efforts are directed to stepping up the modernization of the pharmaceutical and medical appliances industries and improving medical science and technology.

The public health sector works to develop advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques and therapies and introduce and generalize them, with the focus put on providing superior prescriptions for effectively curing various diseases such as refractory and congenital diseases and remarkably building up the capacities of the specialized hospitals and departments.

Steady efforts are made to further enhance the function and role of the section doctor system and qualitatively increase the anti-epidemic capability.
