March 23 is World Meteorological Day.
In January the World Meteorological Organization released a report that 2025 was recorded as one of the hottest years ever since the meteorological observation started.
The United Nations Environment Programme predicted that even if the signatories to the Paris convention on climate change will have attained their carbon dioxide emission reduction goals by 2035, global average temperature is most likely to rise by 2.3-2.5℃ as compared to the period before the industrial revolution, and that if no urgent measures are taken, the global temperature rise will have reached 2.8℃ within this century.
For this reason, pundits and international organizations claimed that the threat to human existence caused by global warming is no longer an abstract concept, and warned that in case of the failure to check global warming, it may incur an unpredictable disaster.
Now the DPRK is consistently pushing ahead with the work to improve the meteorological service by putting the weather forecast on a scientific basis and realizing the modernization of observation, informatization of data communication and real-time forecast, so as to cope with the disastrous abnormal weather.
In the course of this, it has developed an integrated weather forecasting system, intelligent, automatic and sophisticated, which applies AI technology to all processes of weather forecast, so as to improve its accuracy and further shorten the time of forecast.
The county-level downpour and flood early warning system has also been developed and introduced across the country.
A range of information including the weather effects on human life, health and transport is disseminated promptly and conveniently via the media and nationwide online and offline communication networks.
In addition, observation stations up and down the country conduct real-time prediction and analysis of the change of weather and its impact and the features of sudden abnormal weather patterns.
These results constitute a sci-tech guarantee for helping the nation promptly cope with flood and other natural disasters.
