President Kim Il Sung had a noble outlook on the rising generation. Here is a story about it.
In the spring of 1936 when the anti-Japanese armed struggle was at its height, he came to Maanshan to form a new division. There, he dropped in at a secret camp for children. He felt his heart breaking to see the members of the Children’s Corps there suffering from cold, hunger and sickness.
He fumed over what the Leftist opportunists inflicted on the children.
He earnestly said to the supply department members of the secret camp as follows: Why did we start the revolution and why do we still carry on the revolution overcoming all hardships? In a sense, our revolution represents a revolution for the younger generation. How can we claim to be working for the revolution and be proud of being communists, without feeding children properly or providing them with decent clothing?…Today we are responsible for the revolution; tomorrow, however, these children will be the main force, bearing the destiny of the revolution. Consequently, if we are to be loyal to the Korean revolution right to the end, we must raise stoutly our successors, who will carry forward our revolution.
He added that he could not get warm, even if he covered himself with one hundred blankets, as long as those children were sick in bed and were shivering with cold. Then he sent out his own blanket to the children and made sure that new clothes were provided to them.
It is well known that Children’s Corps schools were built in the guerrilla bases to enforce free education, and that large and small battles were often organized to obtain school supplies, foods and daily necessities for children during the anti-Japanese armed struggle.
The history of love for the future generations cherished by Kim Il Sung has been carried on over many decades of the revolution. The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has such a view that before the people and above them stand our children.
