University Contributes to Economic Development and Improvement of People’s Living Standards

In recent years, teachers and researchers at University of Sciences have successfully worked on some projects.
They helped the Samgwang Livestock Farm establish an intelligent integrated production system based on core information technologies such as cloud computing, Big Data processing, IoT, virtual production technology and network technology, so as to build the farm as a model of modern animal husbandry.
They solved sci-tech problems arising in realizing the integration of business management and production at the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm newly built in the area of Wihwa Island, which has resulted in increased vegetable production.
Meanwhile, they introduced a new sulfur separation technology into the gas-purification process at the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, providing a guarantee for lowering per-unit consumption of raw materials and increasing production.
Their research hits which are paying off in different sectors of the national economy include a portable gold content analyser, an optical molten iron temperature meter, an automatic multi-element spectrum analyser, an infrared absorption-type real-time paper areal weight measurement device, BT insecticidal solution and a water-purification compound microorganism.
In recent years, the researchers have produced a new main component of fruit essential oil, which is indispensable to the food industry.
The essential oil made with a by-product from alcoholic fermentation is low in cost with its purity at over 99%, and has a rich source of raw materials. Its production line is environmentally friendly. The essential oil was registered as a high-tech product.
As a result, a project was awarded the Natural Science Prize in March, and some other projects the February 16 Science and Technology Prize, the Natural Science Prize and the Technical Innovation Prize in recognition of their contribution to economic development and improvement of the people’s living standards.
More than a hundred papers written by them were published by Nature- and SCI-level journals and other international publications.
