Kim Ok Gyong, section chief of Pyongyang Primary School No. 4, is called a born teacher.
When she was young, she dreamed of becoming a teacher by following in the footsteps of her parents. After graduating from Pyongyang Teachers Training College, she began to teach at Pyongyang Primary School No. 4 in April 2004.
During her middle school days she often asked unexpected questions to the surprise of her teacher, and in her college days she was called an “inventor student” and a “master of good ideas”.
She took up teaching with an unusual ambition and goal, but her job as a primary school teacher made her realize time and again that it was much harder than she had expected in her college days.
At meal or in bed, she was always preoccupied by thoughts of how to induce her pupils to get interested in studying and what kind of teaching method would be effective for developing the thinking ability and intelligence of the young pupils with different characters, hobbies and lifestyles.
Busy as she was giving lessons, she spent her spare time on preparing distinctive visual aids and multimedia conducive to arousing the enthusiasm of the pupils for study, stimulating their competitive spirit and improving their creative thinking, and applied them into the teaching practice. She also devised new teaching methods to meet their psychology to bring them into practical use.
Her new teaching methods designed to train the pupils into creative talents were highly appreciated in the district-, city- and nation-wide teaching contests. In particular, Urigulkongbu, mother tongue study support program for primary school course, was generalized across the country.
Her achievements won her more than 20 certificates on registration and introduction of new teaching methods and on inventing experimental apparatuses and teaching aids. This alone is enough to say that she has devoted all her passion and effort to education.
She is honoured as a meritorious person of socialist patriotism.
