The water crisis is getting more serious on the earth, also known as the “planet of water.”
A research institute of the United Nations warned in a recent report that three-quarters of the world population are under the threat of “water bankruptcy” due to the excessive use of groundwater and water pollution.
According to data available, glaciers accounting for 68.7% of the world’s freshwater are melting rapidly under the influence of global warming, and that the melting amount reaches 273 billion tons or the equivalent to the total volume consumed by the world population a year on average for 30 years.
The contradiction between the supply and demand of freshwater resources is growing acute due to the accelerated reduction of water resources.
For this reason, experts call for turning out for protecting water resources and preventing global warming, claiming that the “water bankruptcy” should not be overlooked.
The DPRK is working hard to protect water resources and effectively manage and use them to cope with the ever-worsening water crisis.
Efforts have been directed to the afforestation and water conservation across the country.
Stage-by-stage plans to turn all the mountains into useful ones are being worked out and pushed forward, including the completion of planting trees in the treeless areas in the mountains and raw material bases in the regional industry sector.
In particular, a mass movement is going on to plant trees of good species suited to the specific conditions of relevant regions during the spring tree-planting season this year.
Meanwhile, nature-remaking projects such as river improvement and hillside and streamlet erosion control are progressing apace on a regular basis.
The national disaster control capabilities for minimizing natural disasters have been strengthened to provide sufficient forces and equipment needed to reduce the risk of flooding.
