Greater efforts are being made in the DPRK to rev up the recycling drive.
A wide range of research projects is under way for adopting effective and advanced methods to sort and process wastes and extract useful materials from them.
Many factories and enterprises are reusing industrial wastes to obtain materials needed in improving the people’s living standards.
Building on the success achieved in obtaining hundreds of tons of baking coal from fly ash, a research group of the Central Mining Research Institute of the State Academy of Sciences has worked on a project for establishing a fly-ash recycling process at several thermal power stations.
By reusing waste plastics and rubber, the Chongjin Footwear Factory has produced quality goods while cutting the cost by over 50% in the production of gumboots and various other shoes. The Kangson PVC Sheet Factory in Nampho Municipality has further improved the waste plastics recycling line to turn out various plastic goods like chair.
Officials and technicians at the Hwangryongsan Green Technology Company have developed and introduced a new mixed cement production technology which helps reuse lumps of concrete, slag, waste bricks and others coming from demolished buildings to produce cement as good as portland cement, while consuming less energy. The new energy-saving technology suits the world trend of cement production, and it stood out at the provincial building-materials exhibition-2025 held in Pyongyang last year.
Amid the powerful nationwide drive to employ and develop the recycling technology, an increasing number of factories are making substantial contributions to the growth of the national economy and the improvement of the people’s living standards.
