“Thank you for your wonderful Taekwon-Do demonstration.”
This is what the governor of the Maritime Territory of the Russian Federation said to a group of Taekwon-Do practitioners of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee after seeing the performance by its demonstration team held in Vladivostok, Russia, on May 24.
The event was held amid great expectation and interest of people from all walks of life in the city.
Before the opening ceremony of the event started, the venue was crowded with the officials of the regional government including its governor, persons related to Taekwon-Do and fans.
The demonstration started with the group performance of Changhon Pattern by Ri Se Jin, a 7th-dan master of Taekwon-Do, and others, enthralling the spectators.
It was followed by the high-speed smash and self-defence performance by several instructors, showing the might of the Korean Taekwon-Do marked by versatile skills and agile movements.
Typically, the high-speed smash performed by instructor Kim Un Hyok attracted the attention of the spectators completely.
The event reached the climax as other instructors performed rotary smash, one-to-three sparring, daunting hand-and-foot smash and combined power show.
At the end of the demonstration, some spectators vyingly came out to the stage to ask the performers to sign on the broken pieces of pine boards, while others waved wildly at them as a token of congratulation.
The spectators voiced their admiration, saying that they had never seen such a mysterious martial art and they were deeply impressed by Korean Taekwon-Do full of vigour and mettle and that the demonstration would serve as an occasion for making Vladivostok a centre for the development of Taekwon-Do in the Far East of Russia.
Throughout the 40-minute-long demonstration filled with excellent movements, including the crush and breaking of well over a hundred slabs of marble and wooden sticks, a formidable task which cannot be understood with common sense, the Korean Taekwon-Do practitioners threw the Russians into complete fascination, demonstrating the soul and spirit of the Korean people.
