In his reminiscences With the Century, President KimIl Sung said: “That the sovereignty of a nation lost in a momentcould only be recovered in a thousand years was an important lesson I had learned during the 20 years of the revolution against the Japanese. I mean that it is easy to lose a country, but difficult to win it back. It is agrim reality of the world that it takes decades or even centuries to restore a countrywhich was lost in an instant.”
Korea’sliberation was the precious gain of patriotism, which was achieved at thecost of too many sacrifices and blood.
How many fighters dedicated theiryouth and lives to the struggle to win back the country in the blizzard-rent faraway alien land?
On his voyage for his triumphantreturn home, he gave himself up to deep emotion as looked at the vast ocean.
The President was returning tohis homeland after 20 years, leaving hisblood relatives, friends and many comrades behind in themountains and fields of the foreign country, and therefore he might have recollected so many past unforgettable events.
That is why he condensed the lesson and law of the world, which he had learned while waging the bloody anti-Japanese war for 20years to liberate his country by national efforts, into the meaningful expression of a moment and athousand years.
National sovereignty lost in a moment could be recovered in a thousandyears!
This preciousteaching of the President still deeply engraves in our minds the preciousnessof the country that should not be lost even a moment.
