Orphans in Nampho call a woman “Our Doctor” and “Our Mother” with a great fondness. She is Kim Un Byol, a dentist at the city’s Waudo District Hospital.
Over 10 years ago she visited the Nampho Primary School for Orphans for dental correction service. While chatting with the medical staffers of the school, she learned that they had some difficulty in malocclusion treatment.
She did not take their remarks indifferently because she knew well that correcting teeth in childhood is of lasting significance for a person throughout their life. She could not resist an ardent impulse to treat the orphans who grow up under the deep concern of the country and should develop as strong pillars for the country.
Although she was busy treating the residents in her charge, she often visited the school. She provided dental care to scores of children and contributed to consolidating the material foundation of the school’s clinic.
Her sincerity motivated many medical workers including all her colleagues to join her in this effort.
This year, too, she together with other medical workers visited the primary and secondary schools for orphans in the city to check on the dental conditions of hundreds of children and relieve them of dental troubles including periodontitis. In particular, she showed utmost care in treating each of the orphans who were about to join the People’s Army after finishing the secondary school lest they should suffer from dental disorder during the military service and later on.
Sometimes she prepared birthday spreads for the orphans and sent them nice dishes. This moved them to regard her as their own mother.
On last year’s Mothers’ Day (November 16) several women innovators in the city including Kim were given gifts from the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .
