The Central Mining Research Institute of the State Academy of Sciences has provided a scientific guarantee for increased mineral production by establishing a flotation process based on air-power loader.
According to Jong Chol, director of the institute, air-power loader is now used worldwide for massively dressing ores. It is superior to the mechanical flotation machine in terms of cost, area of production and ore dressing indexes.
The institute developed an air-power loader and introduced it into the Komdok Mining Complex, turning the ore-dressing plant equipped with rows of mechanical flotation machines into an energy-, labour- and land-saving one. This has contributed to the growth in the production of nonferrous metals.
Such success won the research team the February 16 Science and Technology Prize, the national top honour in the field, a few years ago.
On this basis, the scientists have worked to instal air-power loaders of different sizes at the Unpha, Hyesan Youth, Yongyu and other mines over the past five years.
At present, these mines are producing concentrated ores with higher grade and extraction rate while considerably saving electricity, manpower and reagents as compared with the period before the introduction of the machine.
In addition, the institute has also solved technical problems arising in deep mining by developing new ore mining and blasting methods.
Such achievements were highly appreciated at the exhibition of sci-tech achievements in different sectors of the national economy-2025.
