Officials and scientists of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences are faithfully planning and designing the undertakings to powerfully promote the agricultural production of the country by dint of science and technology.

Director Paek Son Sik talked about the work of his unit as follows:

"Now an intensive drive is launched in the agricultural science research sector as well to get rid of outdated forms and patterns, conservatism and empiricism and make sustained efforts to create something new.

We are concentrating efforts on the research to raise the fertility of soil by improving its conditions on the basis of the comprehensive soil survey of farmland."

The Academy of Agricultural Sciences also puts efforts into actively introducing the techniques of breeding and cultivating good strains of seed and advanced agricultural science and technology necessary for double cropping and applying them to reality. In addition, it continuously intensifies the work to change the grain production structure of the country and substantially promotes the research to solve the immediate scientific and technological problems arising in developing the vegetable production and animal husbandry.

The Capital City Construction Designing Institute of the Pyongyang Construction Commission further raises the scientific level of design in order to successfully carry out the huge construction tasks during the period of new long-term plan.

It also frequently holds meetings for joint review of designs to manufacture more efficient construction equipment suited to the actual conditions of the country while actively introducing architectural information modelling technology and other advanced designing methods to ensure convenience, functionality and diversity.

Some time ago, the 39th Sci-Tech Festival of Kim Il Sung University, the 39th Sci-Tech Festival of Kim Chaek University of Technology and the 39th Pyongyang Municipal Sci-Tech Festival were held, in which new technologies and experience were shared and transferred and the creative consciousness of the developers raised.

Ever-growing is the enthusiasm of the officials, scientists and researchers in the field of scientific research to solve the scientific and technological problems for enhancing the independence and modernization level of the national economy and ensuring the qualitative growth of production on the basis of the main direction of scientific and technical work indicated by the historic Ninth Congress of the WPK.
