The great leader Kim Il Sung liberated the country occupied by the Japanese imperialists through an armed struggle on August 15, 1945, so that the Korean people could greet a new turning point in carving out their destiny.

After the country was liberated from the colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists, the social position of the Korean women was remarkably changed in particular.

The Korean women, who had been under oppression and restraint due to feudal fetters for a long period, became the masters of new Korea under the care of Kim Il Sung in the liberated country.

Kim Il Sung wisely led the work to organize a women's organization first among the working people's organizations and brightly illumined the road ahead of the women. Under his leadership, the Law on Sex Equality was promulgated on July 30, 1946, bringing about a proud reality of women's emancipation.

The daily "Rodong Sinmun" on July 27, 1947, introduced the change in the life of the Korean women after the promulgation of the Law on Sex Equality, saying; "...4,488 have been already elected members of the people's committees at all levels and ... 24 elected to the People's Assembly, the supreme organ of the people's government. ...13 female judges, four public prosecutors and more than 100 assessors are working at the judicial organs."

Dr. Han In Yong, Section Chief of the Academy of Social Sciences, said these are the Korean women changed after liberation though they suffered extreme humiliation and oppression in the past, and continued:

"The Korean women came to be able to put an end to the history of bitter tears woven with the contempt of women and learn and work to their heart's content with the same right as men. Their life became lyrics and melody.

Women advancing under the people's power,                   

The foundation of the country is laid with our strength every day.

...

The Korean women sang the 'Song of Women' everywhere in the liberated country."

In the past when they were deprived of their country, the Korean women sang the song of bitter tears, likening their destiny to the garden balsam withering under a fence. After the country's liberation, however, they devoted themselves to the building of a new country singing the "Song of Women" with the pleasure of dramatic change in their lives.

The "Song of Women" which resounded far and wide in the sky of new Korea was a song of boundless thanks to the liberator Kim Il Sung; it was a song of pledge of the Korean women to devote their all to the new country of the people.
