Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) — The Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea was held in Pyongyang from January 5 to 12, 2021, at a time of key importance in the course of strengthening our Party and building Korean-style socialism.
In his report on the review of the work of the Central Committee of the WPK at the congress, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un comprehensively analyzed and reviewed in depth the work of the seventh-term Party Central Committee and advanced new lines and strategic and tactical policies for the epochal advance of socialist construction and important tasks for promoting the external relations and strengthening the Party work.
The congress clarified the new five-year plan for national economic development.
It set it as the general orientation of the five-year plan for national economic development to lay a solid foundation for revitalizing the overall national economy and improving the people’s standard of living by concentrating efforts on the central link in economic development. And it set it as the central task to put production on a normal track in all fields of the national economy by concentrating investment on the metal and chemical industries of key importance, strengthen the material and technical foundations in the agricultural sector and supply enough raw and other materials to the light industry sector so as to increase the production of consumer goods.
The congress set it as a goal to advance toward the steady economic upsurge and the remarkable improvement of the people’s living standards on the basis of the present situation and potential of the state economy.
