The second-day sitting of the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea took place on February 20. The congress will mark a new milestone in the development of the Party and the history of comprehensive socialist construction.

The congress continued the discussion of the first agenda item "Review of the Work of the WPK Central Committee" in the wake of its first-day sitting.

After hearing about the implementation of Party and state policies during the period under review, the congress appreciated that the remarkable successes, experience and lessons, which were achieved and gained in and drawn from the overall affairs of the Party and the state, including politics, the economy, culture, national defence and diplomacy, under the leadership of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK headed by Comrade Kim Jong Un, serve as the precious foundations for advancing the struggle onto the next-stage development process and as a springboard for making leaps forward guaranteeing greater changes and successes.

The past five years, when the first-stage course towards the comprehensive development of Korean-style socialist construction elapsed through the strenuous efforts, were a period of great transformation and turnaround of profound significance for the Party struggling to realize the independence of the masses of the people and for the developing revolution.

The Party Central Committee consistently adhered to the responsible work attitude of finding shortcomings first rather than successes and drawing the best method for development from lessons in adopting Party policies and planning and carrying out work, and to the principle of attaching absolute importance to the interests of the state and the people. It opened up a new chapter, in which the whole country progresses in a simultaneous and balanced way, by steering the trend of accelerating changes in all fields of socialist construction.

In the course of the struggle for implementing the five-point Party-building line in the new era, the Party further boosted its leadership and organizing abilities and fighting efficiency and established its features and traits for ensuring the eternal continuity of its glorious 80-year ruling history. Furthermore, the five-year plans in all fields, decided by the Eighth WPK Congress, were successfully carried out and creations of prosperity were built in all parts of the country, thanks to the ambitious spirit and irresistible might of all the Party members and other people united with patriotism, thereby fully demonstrating the ever-increasing political and economic potentials of the DPRK.

The congress acknowledged that through the struggle during the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK which aspired to fresh innovation, bold creation and steady advance, the internal force was remarkably increased, a scientific development foundation was laid for advancing all fields of socialist construction onto a new stage and self-confidence and sufficient abilities were gained for further stepping up national rejuvenation.

The second-day sitting of the congress heard an important report of weighty historic and practical significance in making the pioneering period of the comprehensive development of socialism enter a period of great upsurge.

Comrade Kim Jong Un started the report on the work of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK.

All the participants are listening attentively to the historic report on the work of the Party Central Committee which proudly reviews the five years when it brought about the eye-opening development and change with absolute trust in its cause and strong fighting spirit and through an offensive struggle.
