Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, visited a major munitions factory on January 3 to learn about the production of tactical guided weapons.
He was accompanied by Jo Chun Ryong, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Kim Jong Sik, first deputy department director of the Central Committee of the WPK.
He first looked round the technically updated production areas to learn in detail about the modernization.
Expressing the view that a more innovative plan and establishment of a rational system are necessary for the flexible automatic manufacturing system and production areas, he said that, from a practical point of view, there still exists a series of deficiencies in the modernization of the assembly process and that the design of the process and the corresponding arrangement of equipment are important in eliminating them. And he gave instructions to reexamine the overall plans for the construction and modernization of munitions industry enterprises in 2026 and propose again optimum plans taking into account the aforesaid aspects.
For our munitions industry, economic arrangement and the management of production and technical upgrading should be carried on carefully and in a scrupulous way to suit the special characteristics and the present situation where the current munitions production and the modernization project should be pushed simultaneously, he stressed.
He appraised the multi-mission precision guided weapons being produced at the factory.
He said: The potential military and technical capabilities and effectiveness of our excellent tactical guided weapon system have military effective value great enough to replace even the multiple launch rocket system in the future. We will equip major units with this weapon system in an organized way from the first half of this year. Attention should be paid to the need to decisively expand the current production capacity by about 2.5 times in order to meet the unit-specific demand for equipment being planned by the Ministry of National Defence and the General Staff.
He stressed the need to pay close attention also to improving the quality of cooperative products.
He expressed belief that all the officials, technicians and workers of the factory would take the lead in upholding the Party's policy on munitions industry with greater technical innovation and production results.
