Many rural communities in the DPRK are pushing ahead with the preparations for raising fish in paddy fields on a large scale next year.
Pyongyang Municipality has set dozens of hectares of paddy fields suitable for fish farming and realigned all of them. And it took measures to secure seed fish, improve their nutritional condition in winter and ensure good spawning scheduled in spring. It also built floating feed production facilities.
South Phyongan Province designated over a hundred hectares of fields as suitable for fish farming and reshaped them while extensively growing fish in the paddy fields of the lowland and intermediate mountainous farms. And it laid a foundation for producing animal protein feed as much as it needs.
North Hamgyong Province and Nampho Municipality have striven to establish a well-regulated system of seed fish production and supply, thus building bases for growing seed fish in more than ten cities and counties.
Kangwon Province has completed reshaping hundreds of hectares of paddy fields and built a pedigree fish farm, hatching ground and floating feed production facility, while increasing the production of young catfish.
Agricultural workers across the country are making steady efforts to increase crop yield and fish production by pushing fish farming in paddy fields in earnest.
