Associate Professor Choe Ryon, PhD, teaches at the Faculty of Korean Linguistics of Kim Il Sung University.
She won the WIPO National Award for Creativity for the first time in the DPRK for her novel Make Your Youth Stay Young .
The autobiographical novel was released in 2023.
The title of the novel reflects the author’s ideal and ambition to stay young for the sake of her country.
In fact, poetry came naturally to Choe Ryon.
In her childhood she was adept at writing poems, enthralling people and enjoying popularity as a promising poet.
But she wanted to become a novelist.
Choe intended to write a best-seller featured by Korean composition techniques and storylines. With such a high ambition, she devoted herself to writing during her university and postgraduate courses.
Her passion for writing did not diminish even after she started to teach at her alma mater and got married.
Choe Ryon made strenuous efforts to produce works of character and style. Over the decades she has written at least 60 novels and poems.
Her novels are characterized by determined women scientists as their heroines. Through the depiction of their lives, she explained that the true value of a woman’s life and her genuine wealth lie in her patriotic devotion.
In Make Your Youth Stay Young the heroine makes a decision to serve the country with scientific achievements and works hard to this end, earning true love and happiness. As soon as it was published, the novel turned heads among university students and young scientists and it became a best-seller. It won the first place in the field of copyright at the intellectual property rights development exhibition-2024.
With lots to juggle as a wife, mother and teacher, she invested much time and energy in writing the novel, which is still well received by many.
Choe Ryon is now working on a new novel with the same ideal and ambition as those she had in her youth.
