Children in the DPRK are growing up healthily, enjoying tasty and nutritious dairy products provided by the government every day.
Since the adoption of the childcare policy on providing the children across the country with dairy products and other nutritious foods at state expense at the Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in June 2021, well over a hundred goat and dairy cow farms and their branch farms have been newly built or expanded throughout the country.
Pyongyang Municipality built hundreds of goat pens in the general animal husbandry facility in Kangdong County and established a system of breeding superior species of goat. The municipality took measures to raise goats on a higher scientific basis and ensure enough fodder supply, thus increasing the milk production by more than three times.
South Phyongan, North Phyongan, Jagang and North Hamgyong provinces and Nampho and Rason municipalities newly built animal sheds, fodder processing and storage facilities and general control rooms, and goat and dairy cow farms with modern milking and cooling facilities and quality inspection equipment.
Meanwhile, South Hwanghae, North Hwanghae, Kangwon, South Hamgyong and Ryanggang provinces and Kaesong Municipality introduced valuable technical innovations and improved the breeding system.
As a result, the number of dairy cows and goats increased 1.4 times and more than twice respectively, and the milk production rose over 1.4 times throughout the country.
Remarkable progress was also made in the effort to improve the productivity and quality of dairy products and supply them on a regular basis.
The production of dairy products has steadily gone up all over the country with the manufacture and installation of thousands of milk processing equipment, including spray-drying equipment for powdered milk production and vacuum concentrator. In addition, lines capable of producing nutritious foods such as bread and powdered bone and kelp were established and expanded.
In parallel, the government worked out and issued technical guidelines on disinfection of containers for transportation, production of dairy goods and hygienic environment control and pushed ahead with the work to establish a system and order whereby all dairy goods production units go into production on the basis of strict inspection of water quality.
