July 27 marks the day when the DPRK won a three-year war against the US imperialists early in the 1950s. The day is greatly celebrated in the DPRK as war veterans from across the country get together in Pyongyang.
One day in July 2012, in the run-up to the 59th anniversary of the V-Day, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un told officials that it is important to celebrate July 27 as a holiday of victors and that it is needed to make it a tradition in the future to invite war veterans to Pyongyang and celebrate the V-Day with splendour every year.
Some days later, he called officials again to give detailed instructions on holding the V-Day celebrations successfully.
He said: The war veterans our Party values and puts forward are genuine patriots and laudable sons and daughters who devoted their youth and lives to the Party, leader, country and people during the Fatherland Liberation War. It is the demand of the revolution and noble moral obligation for the future generations to respect, honour and take good care of them.
He showed meticulous concern over how to take them to Pyongyang, provide best accommodations, work out a good schedule for visits, and prepare souvenirs to give them before they return home.
On the occasion of the V-Day that year, war veterans from across the country met in Pyongyang to enjoy memorable days together with their old comrades-in-arms.
Kim Jong Un personally checked the menu for the war veterans participating in the V-Day celebrations, ensured that a national banquet, firework display and artistic performance were given, and had photos taken with them.
During the photo session, he warmly waved back to the cheering veterans and expressed his expectation and conviction that they would remain healthy and encourage the younger generations to carry on the revolutionary cause of Juche by handing down to them such legacy as the spirit of collectivism and mass heroism to which they had given full play during the war.
This year, too, war veterans and persons of wartime merits were invited to the celebrations of the 72th anniversary of victory in the Fatherland Liberation War and had memorable days in Pyongyang.
