The Eleventh Congress of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League took place in Pyongyang from April 28 to 30.

The congress reviewed in a comprehensive way the work of the youth league during the period under review and discussed the practical tasks and ways for concentrating the great strength of the army of youth for the implementation of the programme of the struggle of the Workers' Party of Korea and thus further consolidating it as a powerful driving force for the overall prosperity and development of socialism.

Present there were delegates elected by youth league organizations at all levels.

The congress was observed by relevant officials of the Party and armed forces organs, ministries, national agencies and the sector of education for youth and children.

The platform was occupied by Kim Jae Ryong and Ri Il Hwan, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the WPK Central Committee, Ju Chang Il, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Kim Song Gi, member of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, members of the Executive Committee of the SPYL Central Committee, chairpersons of the provincial youth league committees, exemplary youth league officials and members, officials in charge of youth work in the field of armed forces and service personnel.

The congress elected the presidium and secretariat.

The agenda items discussed at the congress are as follows:

1. Review of the work of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League

2. On the revision of the Rules of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League

3. Election of the central leadership of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League

Kim Jae Ryong conveyed a congratulatory message of the WPK Central Committee to the participants in the Eleventh Congress and all other young people across the country.

Mun Chol, chairman of the SPYL Central Committee, made a report on the first agenda item.

He said that the Korean young people have grown to be performers of creations and feats and the vanguard fighters of the revolution in the struggle for ushering in a new era of overall national rejuvenation, flying high the sacred flag of the youth league.

He referred to the precious successes made in the course of orienting the youth league work to making all the young people the patriotic youth who staunchly defend socialism and devote themselves to the struggle for socialist construction.

He pointed to the heroic feats performed by the young service personnel with their blood, lives and sweat at the outposts of defence of the country, the revolution and the people and in major worksites of socialist construction true to the Party's orders and instructions in the past five years.

The young service personnel, who regard the Party's orders as their absolute missions and unconditionally realize the Party's desires, fully displayed their honour as reliable revolutionary soldiers and hardcore youth not only in defending the country's existence and the people's health from the global health crisis but also in the gigantic creation campaigns such as the accomplishment of the historic cause of regional transformation and the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang Municipality, he said.

He reviewed the achievements made in the ideological education of young people and the enhancement of the activity of the youth league organizations during the period under review.

Saying that the youth league organizations will steadily develop only when they thoroughly overcome the shortcomings and deviations in line with the requirements of the times while consolidating the successes and experience, the reporter comprehensively analyzed and reviewed the shortcomings revealed in the work of the youth league in the period under review and their causes and the ways for overcoming them on the basis of the data on the actual situation of the youth league organizations at all levels.

He ardently called on everyone to courageously advance forward, redoubling the firm faith and will, for the eternal dignity and glory of the DPRK and for the brilliant hope of youth and bright future as befitting the young vanguard in the great era of Kim Jong Un.

Speeches were made on the first agenda item.

Introduced in the speeches were excellent experiences gained in educating and training young people into reliable revolutionary soldiers and hardcore youth of the WPK, regarding the ideas and leadership of the Party Central Committee as the lifeline, and in training them to be honourable pathfinders of socialist construction and actual patriots by closely combining the organization of and guidance over the youth league organizational and ideological life with the implementation of the revolutionary tasks.

The speakers expressed their resolve to bring about fresh innovations in the youth league work, strictly analyzing the shortcomings and their causes in the work of the youth league during the period under review.

The congress discussed the second agenda item "On the revision of the Rules of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League".

There was a report on the revision of the youth league rules.

The reporter outlined the contents of the rules to be revised and supplemented in conformity with the new tasks facing the youth league and the principles of building the youth league.

He said that the rules to be revised reflected the practical requirements for making the youth league the elite militant reserves of the WPK and enhancing its organizing ability, unity and activity, before submitting them for deliberation at the congress.

A decision on the revision of the rules was adopted with unanimous approval.

The congress discussed the "Election of the central leadership of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League" as the third agenda item.

First, the SPYL Central Committee was elected.

All the candidates for the members and alternate members of the SPYL Central Committee were elected as its members and alternate members with the unanimous approval of the delegates.

The First Plenary Meeting of the Eleventh Central Committee of the SPYL was held.

Ju Chang Il, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, announced the decision of the First Plenary Meeting of the eleventh term.

The Executive Committee of the SPYL Central Committee was elected.

Paek Un Chol was elected as chairman of the SPYL Central Committee and Kim Ju Hyok, Pak Myong Jin, Wang Chol U, Kim Song Il, Ri Myong Hyok and Kim Song Il were elected as its vice-chairmen.

The Organizing Committee of the SPYL Central Committee was formed.

The chairperson, vice-chairpersons and members of the Central Inspection Commission of the SPYL were elected.

Department directors of the SPYL Central Committee were appointed.

The congress elected a committee for drafting the decision of the congress with members of the newly elected eleventh-term central leadership of the youth league, and the committee deliberated on the creative and constructive opinions offered by the delegates and supplemented the draft decision with them.

The decision of the Eleventh Congress of the SPYL was adopted with the unanimous approval of the delegates.

A letter of pledge to the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un was adopted amid all the delegates' enthusiasm for single-hearted loyalty.

The congress ended with the chorus "We Will Defend General Kim Jong Un with Our Lives".
