Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- The DPRK is rich in mineral water and hot spring resources as well as climatotherapy resources conducive to the improvement of people's health.
The climatotherapy resources include different climatic zones and various weather elements according to seasons and zones.
According to Ri Hye Gyong, director of the Natural Health Research Institute under the Ministry of Public Health, the climatic zones of the DPRK can be divided into mountainous, coastal and plain climatic zones in consideration of the topographical, meteorological and climatic features.
Among them are the mountainous climatic zones of North Hamgyong Province, the climatic highlands of Ryanggang Province, the coastal climatic zones of South Hamgyong Province and Kangwon Province and the plain climatic zones of South Phyongan Province.
Experts believe that the rational use of the mountain climate can improve the state of health of those suffering from such ischemic heart diseases as myocarditis and myocardial infarction, arteriosclerosis, hypertension (stage 1), hypotension, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic hepatitis, nerve centre diseases, etc.
The coastal climate is suitable for recovering from the fatigue and effective in restoring the endocrine system function and preventing and treating chronic inflammatory diseases of the upper airway as it contains a lot of mineral salts, including chlorine, iodine and bromine, in the beautiful natural environment and clean air.
Warm and dry climate of the plains, too, is conducive to the treatment of urinary diseases and various metabolic disorders.
Because of the DPRK's various climates, people can select healthy climatic zones in different seasons.
According to data, the inland plains are good for people's health as there are Kangso mineral water, Sinchon hot spring, and Samma and Kyongam mineral waters in those areas.
In summer, alpine climatic zones, such as Pochonnaegok hot spring resort, and Onyang hot spring resort are good for the health.
In autumn the typical healthy climatic zones are Sinchon and Ryonggang hot spring resorts and Samma mineral water area and in winter Songdowon area in the east coast of the country.
Thanks to the popular policies of the Workers' Party of Korea, sanatoriums and recreation centers for climatotherapy have been built in different parts of the country. -0-
