Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- From olden times, the Korean people have created and inherited various customs of life suited to the seasonal characteristics of warm April.
In April there are Chongmyong and Kogu, part of the 24 seasonal divisions of the year in the lunar calendar.
Chongmyong means the time when the sky is getting gradually bright and Kogu means the time when rain favorable for the growth of crops falls.
When Chongmyong comes, the Korean people clear up the traces of winter, sow various kinds of flower seeds in flower gardens, and cultivate fruit trees around their houses.
They also visit the graves of their ancestors, repair the damaged parts and pay tribute.
There is a Korean proverb that the land dries in depth when it doesn't rain on the day of Kogu. This shows that people in the past attached great importance to the rain on the day.
Koreans were busy with farming in that important period decisive of farming for the year.
In the period between Chongmyong and Kogu, the Korean people played various kinds of folk games and caught fish in rivers and seas.
Chongmyong and Kogu this year are April 5 and 20. -0-
