On January 31 five babies greeted their first birth anniversary in the DPRK. The mother of the quintuplets, the first of its kind in the country, is Pak Kyong Sim who lives in Neighbourhood Unit No. 76, Janghyon-dong, Moranbong District, Pyongyang. That day many people came to her to congratulate her on the birthday of her babies.
After she was diagnosed as having some babies, she was admitted to Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and put under the deep care of the state and medical workers. For her smooth delivery a powerful team of surgeons and other medical workers was formed and relevant measures were taken one after another. In addition, wild honey and various other kinds of tonics and nutritious foods were supplied to her.
Finally, she gave birth to five babies, but their condition was not optimistic. For their recovery advanced and scientific medical approaches were applied and competent doctors from the Okryu Children’s Hospital and other central-level hospitals were invited. The new-born babies were under constant nursing care.
Positive test results showing that the babies entered a stage of recovery came out more than 10 days after the intensive treatment, and subsequently the rate of their growth began to rise. The mother also regained her health completely although she had been in a critical condition at the time of delivery.
Since June 19 last year the babies have been in care at the Pyongyang Baby Home situated in a good place on the banks of the Taedong River.
Whenever people congratulate her, she says that her children are happy and their future will be bright thanks to the benevolent socialist system.
Even foreigners, expressing their admiration after seeing her children in good health, said that the DPRK is the best in the world in the nursing care.
