Election system is one of the important criteria characterizing the progressive nature and superiority of the social system.

The election system of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a popular and democratic one enabling all citizens to take part in the elections with equal rights as masters of the country.

In the DPRK, elections are held to further strengthen the people's government by building up the power organs at all levels with genuine representatives of the working people including workers and farmers.

Through the elections, the Korean people elect genuine representatives who can fully represent their independent demand and interests as deputies to the power organs at all levels, constantly consolidating their position as the masters of government and politics under the institutional and legal guarantee.

The DPRK ensures that all the citizens participate in the elections free of any discrimination or restrictions.

Citizens have the right to elect and to be elected irrespective of sex, nationality, occupation, length of residence, property status, education, party affiliation, political views and religion.

Those faithful to the people and the country are elected representatives of the people in the elections of deputies to the people's assemblies of the power organs at all levels. Anyone who is loyal to the country and people and has ability can be elected a representative of the people.

In the elections to the local people's assemblies held in November 2023, 99.63 percent of the voters registered in the voter rolls cast their votes and 27,858 workers, farmers, intellectuals and officials were elected deputies.

The DPRK creates free election atmosphere and provides the voters with convenience to the maximum.

It defines the election procedures and methods and follows them with credit so that the citizens can substantially exercise their right to vote.

It organizes the election committees at the constituencies and sub-constituencies, draws up the voter rolls and publishes them beforehand, and substantially provides all the voters with the right to vote directly and every condition in various forms including the issuance of election certificate for those on duty or business trip, organization of sub-constituencies and enforcement of mobile ballot box system.

As said above, the election system of the DPRK makes all people raise their consciousness that they are masters of the state and society and provides them with genuine political freedom and rights. That's why the Korean people take an active part in the elections and celebrate the election day significantly in a festive mood.

The elections of deputies to the 15th Supreme People's Assembly will be held in the DPRK on March 15.

They will elect the masters of the state affairs, genuine representatives of the people, to firmly consolidate the people's sovereignty, and thus serve as an important political occasion of providing a powerful sovereign guarantee for the comprehensive development of socialism.
