Pyongyang, November 27 (KCNA) -- Kaesong was the capital city of Koryo (918-1392) and its political, economic, cultural and educational center for nearly 500 years.
Kaesong Municipality has many historical relics which show the wisdom and talents of the Korean people.
Among them are the Mausoleum of King Wang Kon, Mausoleum of King Kyonghyo, Kaesong Walls, Nam Gate of Kaesong, Sonjuk Bridge, Phyochung Monuments, Sungyang Confucian Shrine, Koryo Songgyungwan University, Manwoldae, the Kaesong Chomsongdae, etc. They were registered as world cultural heritages in June, 2013.
The Mausoleum of King Wang Kon located in Haeson-ri, Kaesong Municipality is the tomb of King Wang Kon (877-943), the founder of Koryo.
It was reconstructed magnificently in 1994 under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il .
In front of its gate is the Monument to the Reconstruction of the Mausoleum of King Wang Kon, the founder of Koryo, inscribed with letters written by the President.
When visitors enter the gate, they can see the mausoleum of King Wang Kon, a typical earthen tomb with a stone chamber, on the highest stage at its rear after passing a temple and pavilion for a monument.
There are a coffin made of flagstones in the center of the chamber and stands for remains on the lower parts of its left and right walls and murals depicting pine, bamboo, etc. on the north, east and west walls.
The mound is eight meters high and four stone tigers stand on its corners. There are a stone table, a pair of stone posts and stone lantern in front of the mound.
Stone statues depicting the close associates of Wang Kon are standing on the second and third stages below the tomb.
There are an image of Wang Kon and murals on his life in the temple.
The mausoleum is preserved as a precious historic relic. -0-
