The passing-on-technique course for medical workers of city and county hospitals, which are being built according to the Regional Development 20×10 Policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea, is running briskly in order to improve their practical abilities.

At present, medical workers of hospitals in Kangdong and Ryonggang counties and Kusong City are learning advanced medical science and technology at a branch of the Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences Hospital.

For the passing-on-technique course, a training base with 20-odd specialized departments, including general surgery, internal medicine, otolaryngology and neck surgery and ophthalmology departments, was set up in the branch. The educational and medical team comprises more than 80 competent doctors and nurses.

According to the training curriculum, which clearly defines the purpose and goal of the course, the medical workers of regional hospitals are acquiring profound medical knowledge and practical skills in their major fields during the three-month course.

According to Kim Sung Guk, director of the branch, the clinical training for enriching the clinical experience of medical workers is geared towards transferring advanced diagnostic and treatment methods suited to the trend of the development of modern medicine.

“During the passing-on-technique course, I learned a lot about advanced methods of diagnosis and treatment of major illnesses in the field of neuroscience that have high morbidity and mortality and might cause disabilities, and acquired greater proficiency in such essential skills as neurological examination and lumbar puncture,” said Mun Myong Chol, senior doctor at the neurological department of the Ryonggang County Hospital, adding he would study harder in the remaining days of the course.

Kim Yong Chol, chief of the emergency department of the Kangdong County Hospital, said that the lives of critically ill patients in different emergency cases are largely dependent on ED physicians, adding that he got to know about the resuscitation of patients with unusual cases that he had not experienced before during the course, and that the course serves as a significant occasion for making another leap in his ability.

The medical workers of city and county hospitals are improving their technical and practical qualifications while learning how to operate modern medical equipment and enriching their clinical experience through the course. And they are also trying to get familiar with the intelligent information system to be applied to the hospitals.

The enthusiasm of the doctors and nurses of city and county hospitals to prepare themselves to be competent medical workers who contribute to the promotion of the people’s health with high medical qualifications and utmost sincerity for patients is growing stronger.
