Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- The history of the great victory in the Fatherland Liberation War is recorded with the feats of drivers of the Korean People's Army who drove trucks through fire and ensured wartime transport, displaying matchless heroism, self-sacrificing spirit and mass heroism.
The drivers grew up to be a force capable of performing a part of defending the country in a short span of time thanks to the measures taken by President Kim Il Sung who instructed on strengthening the rank of drivers in January 1948, before the founding of the regular revolutionary armed forces.
During the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953), they carried munitions. The total running distance is more than 242 million kilometers and the total volume of transport over 500.368 million tons.
Among them were the indomitable brave soldiers who rushed into hails of bullets without hesitation to carry out the leader's order.
Ham Thae Ju, a driver, carried over 320 tons of munitions by traveling nearly 50 000 km between the front and the rear a hundred and dozens of times a year alone. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Republic in April 1952.
In June 1951, Kim Su Gun, Jo Jae Phung and Pae Won Ju received the title of Hero of the Republic on the same day as they cleared mines and time bombs dropped by enemy planes on the road to the front.
14 drivers were awarded the title of Hero of the Republic in the three-year war.
Thanks to the heroic struggle of the drivers, wartime transport like an artery connecting the front and the rear was not stopped even for a moment.
