Venezuelan People’s Struggle for Sovereignty and Socio-economic Stabiliy

July 5 marks the 214 th anniversary of the independence of Venezuela.
Situated in the northern part of South America, Venezuela won its independence on July 5, 1811 after long years of struggle against the colonial rule of Spain.
Venezuela is one of the countries with abundant natural resources including oil and natural gas in the world. However, the Venezuelan people could not benefit from the resources in their own country as they had long been a target of invasion and plunder of the imperialists.
The Venezuelan people overthrew the pro-U.S. regime in 1999 and became genuine masters of political power. They named the country the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and made strenuous efforts to safeguard sovereignty and rights to existence and development of the country and the nation.
The Western hostile forces led by the U.S. imposed indiscriminate sanctions on Venezuela in a bid to overthrow the government of Venezuela upholding the banner of independence against imperialism and the banner of socialism and to seize their natural resources. Besides, they are perpetrating all sorts of despicable acts, instigating ill-intended forces at home and even infiltrating foreign terrorists into the country.
In view of the ever-increasing hostility of the reactionary forces at home and abroad, the Venezuelan government is giving priority to strengthening the power organs at grass roots level to unite broad masses. The government is also actively implementing diversified strategy for economic development as well as the policies for improving people’s living standard.
The landslide victory of present political coalition in the elections of members of National Assembly and Legislative Councils, as well as the election of governors on May 25 served as an occasion fully demonstrating the unity and solidity of the people’s power of Venezuela.
The people and government of Venezuela are now firmly united in their efforts to safeguard sovereignty and ensure socio-economic stability. They are also further expanding the foundation of international solidarity while deepening relations with countries adhering to independence against imperialism.
