Advanced farming methods are being introduced into farms across the country amid the growing enthusiasm for scientific farming among agricultural officials and workers.
Agricultural guidance organs at all levels are working hard to give guidance over scientific farming in a responsible way while effectively disseminating advanced farming methods and techniques in a practical way.
Greenhouse-based rice seedling cultivation is being widely adopted around the country.
Many farms, including the Honam Farm of the Pyongyang Municipal Rural Economy Committee, the Paeksok Farm in Sinchon County of South Hwanghae Province and the Jehyon Farm of the South Phyongan Provincial Rural Economy Committee, actively introduce the method of cultivating rice seedlings in greenhouses, which saves labour and land, raising rice seedlings in a safe and effective way, unaffected by natural conditions.
The introduction of mulching cultivation is also gaining momentum.
South Hwanghae Province has applied mulching cultivation to a large swathe of dry fields this year to ease the strain on manpower.
Improvement has been made also in organic farming.
Drawing on the past experience, Yomju County of North Phyongan Province, Yonggwang County of South Hamgyong Province, Jangchon Vegetable Farm in Sadong District of Pyongyang and many other regions and farms are pushing ahead this year with the work to expand the area in which the mud snail-based organic farming is done.
Sukchon, Phyongwon and other regions of South Phyongan Province have set the right sites for fish farming and worked to provide relevant conditions to encourage fish breeding in paddy fields.
The work to protect land and introduce water-saving farming methods is going on vigorously.
Many regions and farms are working in earnest to introduce non-tillage cultivation and dry paddy-field harrowing in conformity with their actual conditions.
