One day in May 1948, President Kim Il Sung visited the then Ungam-ri of Sungho-myon while giving field guidance at the then Kangdong County in South Phyongan Province.
After entering the office of the Ri People's Committee, being greeted by the chairman of the Ri People's Committee and the chairwoman of the women's union, the President saw the report of the women's union meeting on the desk and asked what issue they were going to discuss.
The chairman of the Ri People's Committee said that the meeting will be held on such issues as spinning thread and planting pumpkins at homes and so on.
At that time, the chairwoman of the women's union told the President that she could not do the work of the women's union as she is illiterate and that the report was written by someone else.
With a smile on his face, the President said that it would be all right if she learns to write and asked her to write her name.
Reading her mind embarrassed at failing to write her own name, he encouraged her saying that she can do the work of the women's union if she learns to write and that she should often write the names of the women's union members to make herself familiar with the letters and also write the report herself and practice reading it.
After learning about her family's living conditions, the President told the chairman of the Ri People's Union to help the chairwoman of the women's union so that she could do the union work well.
After receiving the instructions of the President, the chairwoman learned to write and worked hard to become the leading chairwoman of the women's union in the county. -0-
