In March 1959, President Kim Il Sung visited a small factory in Kyongsong County, North Hamgyong Province of the DPRK.
After being told that the factory was making a universal lathe, the President went to the production spot.
Approaching the lathe, he learnt about its design and supply of materials. And he told an official accompanying him that the factory has lots of precious things and its workers are brave and bold.
That day he went round even the cupola. Then he said that the factory is one of those which won victory in the struggle against mysticism about technology, true to the Party's call and it is qualified to put up the Party's slogan that iron and machine are the king of industry. And he stressed the need to launch a widespread let-one-machine-tool-make-another movement by following the example of the factory, adding that he would make many people visit the factory for study and the factory should transfer its experience to them and host a short course for them.
The President found in the self-reliant spirit of workers at the factory and the lathe manufactured by them a new bud capable of developing the machine-building industry through an all-people movement.
As seen above, the let-one-machine-tool-make-another movement in the DPRK started at a small factory, not a specialized machine factory, under the guidance of the President. -0-
