Paek Jong Suk is a woman living in Neighbourhood Unit No. 56, Kyongnim-dong, Central District, Pyongyang.
She is the second daughter-in-law of Kim Ji Jong, the DPRK’s first academician in the field of mathematics, who was a world-famous mathematician and educator.
Her husband was a doctor of engineering who had devoted all his life to research projects conducive to the country’s economic construction.
She worked as an educator in the art educational sector for several decades while bringing up all of her three children to be doctor’s and master’s degree holders, thus ensuring the continuity of the tradition of the patriotic family of scientists.
She graduated from the then Pyongyang University of Music in the 1960s and taught at her alma mater.
She was a true educator and mentor for her children, too.
Paek, who used to make exacting demand on her children's studies, did not scruple to punish them whenever they were preoccupied with playing.
Once her son asked her why she was trying to push them along the road of science, when father was so busy with his research work and the family was economically difficult.
There and then she severely scolded him, saying that they should fulfil their duty in supporting the country as they are the descendants of Kim Ji Jong.
Thanks to her strenuous efforts, her son working at the State Academy of Sciences and two daughters teaching at Kim Chaek University of Technology and Pyongyang Kim Won Gyun University of Music and Dance obtained doctor’s and master’s degrees.
In recognition of her devoted efforts for the country, Paek Jong Suk was awarded the Communist Mother Honour Prize.
