After the 2023-2024 DPRK premier league came to an end, the male and female teams that entered the rankings at the national championships and the premier league played another competition.
It was the FA (football association) Cup tournament of domestic powers which was held amid the interests of football fans and experts.
Shortly ago, there were the final matches between the teams which finally advanced to the final through group league matches and semifinals at Kim Il Sung Stadium in Pyongyang.
The teams which advanced to the men’s final were Ryomyong and Amnokgang teams that took the first and fourth places in the premier league.
Being optimistic about his team’s chances of success before the final match, the head coach of the Amnokgang team expressed his determination to win without fail the football league cup of domestic powers.
Meanwhile, the head coach of the Ryomyong team said, “Though our team emerged victorious as a new champion in the premier league, we’re not content with that. We’ll do our best to win this fierce battle to demonstrate the might of a genuine power.”
In the match that started with the Amnokgang’s kick-off, the players of both teams unfolded thrilling scenes through fierce attacks from the outset.
The Ryomyong opened the score in the 80th minute. Its forward No. 22 dribbled the ball passed long by the goalkeeper to the opponent’s penalty area and kicked it into the net.
However, 6 minutes later, the Amnokgang’s No. 16 scored an equalizer with a long-distance shot.
The match went into the extra-time, but there was no more goal. So they had to decide the match by a penalty shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, the Ryomyong team beat the Amnokgang 5-2 and lifted the winner’s trophy.
In the women’s final that was played earlier, the April 25 team was placed first.
The Naegohyang team, which had won the women’s premier football league, took the fifth place.
